Mombo Camp and Little Mombo

"The Maun to Mombo Camp air transfer was the most amazing thirty minutes flight I have ever experienced. The aerial view gave me a better understanding of the remote environment I was visiting. A ten-minute drive from the Mombo Airstrip took me to Mombo Camp. The short drive was very pleasant as spring fever was in the air and young offspring were everywhere. For a moment I thought I was in paradise and believe me this is quite a statement, as I am not a 'bush baby' like Colin!!

On arrival at the Camp, I was surprised to see a luxury-tented camp in the midst of wild bush. Charles and Corle (the camp managers) couldn't have been better hosts, as they both relaxed me with their friendly chatter whilst briefing me on the 'do's and don'ts' of the bush. The Camp is on the most scenic island, in a floodplain area covered by thorny Acacia trees and other savannah vegetation. We encountered all the Big Five in the span of four hours, while on a game drive in a 4 X 4 vehicle. The area has a huge concentration of game and is indeed a wildlife extravaganza. Birdlife is prolific too.

I think I deserve entry into the Guinness Book of Records as having the biggest adrenalin rush recorded!!! A roaring male lion decided to prove his vocal ability under the platform upon which my elevated, tented room was perched while I was curled up in bed.

Mombo Camp has a total of twelve identical guest rooms divided into two distinct and independent camps. Both Camps are linked by a raised, wooden walkway. The rooms have a tented camp feel but are very luxurious and the bathrooms are en suite including indoor and outdoor showers."
