The Plettenberg - Plettenberg Bay, eastern Cape coast
"As I sat next to the swimming pool I struggled to differentiate between the pool's edge and the ocean. The pool has been so cleverly designed that both aspects seem to intermingle. This visual deception made the ocean's gentle giants (whales) almost tangible. It was incredible to watch whales casually surf the water with their enormous body mass while dolphins sported around them. The prime whale-viewing season is from July to October. There are some professionally run whaling programs, which I would highly recommend, to observe the whales and learn their habits.
The Hotel's 40 rooms and suites are superbly decorated, each with an individual flair, offering breathtaking views of sea, sand and the Outeniqua mountain range. The menu contained a delicious fair of meals including fresh seafood. Without hesitation I can say that The Plettenberg is 'The Jewel of the Cape'."
