Kiambi, Kiubu and Kulefu "Why go to the Lower Zambezi National Park? Well, it is remote and secluded which means the abundant wildlife rules!!! Placed at intervals along the mighty Zambezi River's bank are three lodges - Kiambi, Kiubu and Kulefu. One way to see them is to travel on the river - by motor pontoon or canoe. The camps are within easy distance from each other, allowing sufficient time to stop and explore big sand banks and islands, and watch cumbersome elephants happily wade through the surging current! While I was discreetly paddling (I didn't want the guide to think I was lazy, so I made the gesture!!), game commuted along the water's edge. I couldn't decide if the animals had come to check me out or the intention was to drink, and I was insignificant!! Birdlife was very active, as this is a haven with all the water, fish and insect life for them to feast upon. The ringing call of the Fish Eagle was ever present. All three camps rest on the Zambezi flood plain. Accommodation in all the camps is spacious, twin-bedded tents with en suite facilities and private verandahs. Kiambi and Kiubo have small swimming pools and after exerting myself with all that paddling, a cool waterhole was all I needed!!! The dining area with its beautiful teak furniture was the setting for some delicious feasts and as usual I made a personal commitment to yet another diet when I left!!! The camp boats and canoes are mostly used for game viewing, but when I was there some enthusiastic anglers were out spinning for the fighting Tigerfish. My highlights were the sunset cruises, and I do not think I have seen such stunning sunsets anywhere else." (Dipti Madhoo) Map of Zambia map opens in new window (63k)
